Given the fluid nature of our funding, opportunities can arise or change rapidly. We strongly encourage you to reach out to the Principal Investigator to inquire about current openings and stay in touch even if no immediate positions are available. We typically seek expertise in the following areas:
- Postdoctoral Scholars
-
We continually recruit highly motivated candidates for fully funded postdoctoral positions with flexible start dates, and we welcome applications from both domestic and international applicants. Please contact Prof. Mueller by email and include:
- — Your academic CV including your publication list.
- — A Description of past and future research interests (1-2 pages).
- — Names and contact information of 1-3 references.
- Graduate students (Master's and PhD)
-
If you are interested in joining us as a PhD student, please apply directly through the Whiting School of Engineering and indicate your interest in working with Prof. Mueller so your application is routed appropriately. Applications are encouraged through Prof. Mueller’s primary department, Civil and Systems Engineering; in rare cases, applications through his secondary departments—Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering—may be considered. A Master’s degree is not required for PhD candidates, and, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the GRE requirement is currently waived.
Master’s students are admitted centrally and not to the group directly.
The formal application deadline for incoming Master's and PhD students is on December 31 of every year, though, we are able to admit outstanding students at any time.
Students who bring their own funding are of particular interest and we are happy to support you in your application. The Research Development Team (RDT) at JHU provides a comprehensive and continuously updated repository of federal and private Graduate Student Funding Opportunities for both national and international students. A selection of particularly relevant fellowships is listed below. Additional, country-specific options for international applicants exist as well — please check your local sources.
- Undergraduate students (interns, visiting students, thesis students)
- Opportunities for (summer) internsiphs, REU students, visiting students, as well as part-time options exist. Please reach out directly using the contact information below.
