Welcome to the Mueller Lab
— the Laboratory for Digital Fabrication and Programmable Matter.
Human creativity, coupled with bioinspiration and modern computational tools, gives rise to the most captivating designs. However, bringing these designs to life remains a challenge. On the other hand, 3D Printing or Additive Manufacturing (AM) has emerged as a powerful alternative to conventional manufacturing and is often hailed as the holy grail. Despite the hype, AM still falls short of expectations, significantly limiting progress in major research fields. The Mueller Lab takes on these challenges by developing new and enhancing existing fabrication processes, which are then utilized to construct (meta)materials, structures, and devices with exotic and unprecedented properties.
The Mueller Lab is based in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering at The Johns Hopkins University, with affiliations with the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. Additionally, we are part of the Johns Hopkins Center for Additive Manufacturing and Architected Materials (JAM2), the Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute (HEMI), and the Johns Hopkins Institute for NanoBioTechnology (INBT).
We are always looking for new collaborators and motivated people at all levels to join us. If you're interested in working with us or simply want to engage in exciting discussions, please don't hesitate to reach out! We'd love to hear from you!
